Uploading photos efficiently to SharePoint and Teams (bulk upload via OneDrive)

In many workflows, it is necessary to take photos of projects or documents directly on site using a smartphone and make them available within the company. Uploading these images individually via the Microsoft Teams app wastes valuable time. In this guide, we show you how to use bulk upload via the OneDrive app to efficiently transfer photos to SharePoint.

Advantages of uploading via the OneDrive app
Although SharePoint and Teams have their own apps, the OneDrive app is the most powerful tool for mobile file management within Microsoft 365. It acts as a central file explorer and allows you to select a large number of media files in a single operation and move them directly to the target folders of your Teams channels or SharePoint sites.

Step by step: Uploading multiple photos at once

  1. Start the app: Open the OneDrive app on your smartphone and make sure you are signed in with your Teamsware business account.

  2. Open libraries: Tap the “Libraries” tab in the bottom navigation bar. Here you will see all Teams channels and SharePoint sites you have access to.

  3. Select the destination: Navigate through the library structure to the desired target folder (e.g., within a channel under “Files”).

  4. Use the upload function: Tap the plus icon (+) at the top of the screen and select “Upload.”

  5. Select multiple files: Switch to your photo gallery. Simply tap to select all images you want to upload.

  6. Complete the process: Confirm your selection by tapping “Done” or the checkmark icon. The images will now be uploaded together to the selected SharePoint folder and will be immediately available to all colleagues.

Best practices for mobile documentation

  • Define a structure in advance: For extensive documentation, create target folders beforehand (e.g., by date or project number) to maintain clarity.

  • Prefer Wi-Fi: When uploading a large number of high-resolution photos, using a Wi-Fi connection is recommended to save mobile data.

  • Check file names: SharePoint keeps the file names from your smartphone. For better findability on desktop, these can later be renamed in the browser.

Note: Compared to uploading files individually via the Teams app, this workflow saves a significant amount of time. If certain libraries are not displayed, please check whether you have already been added as a member to the corresponding SharePoint site or Team.
