Why External Guests Can't See Your Team (and It's NOT Because of the Invitation)

I invite external people to join a team as guests—everything seems to be set ✅
…and then I get this feedback:
👉 “I don’t see the team on my end”

This happens especially often with guests
👉 who also have Microsoft Teams or their own M365 environment

Why?

Think of it this way:
🏢 Every company with its own M365 environment = its own company campus
🏠 Every team = a building on that campus -> If M365 were a company campus …

👉 You invite someone as a guest = You’re granting them access to your Teams building on your company campus

BUT:

👉 If the guest uses Teams themselves,
by default, they’re working on their own company premises

➡️ And that’s exactly where they’ll look for the team
➡️ But your building is located on your company premises—not theirs

The key point:

👉 Access is available
👉 but the guest is still on the wrong company campus

Solution:

Here’s how the guest can find your team:

👉 Click on “Organization” in the top-right corner of the Teams profile
👉 Select your company campus
👉 Teams switches the location, and the team becomes visible

Tip:

Especially for external guests who use Teams themselves, it’s worth including this note directly in the invitation
