Why You Should Use Downtime in Teams Mobile

Clear your head, don't forget a thing: Boost your focus with breaks

Maybe this sounds familiar to you, too:

👉A notification for a new Teams message pops up in the evening
👉You take a “quick peek,” but don’t mark the message as unread again
👉The next day… you’ve completely forgotten about it 😅


👉This is exactly where the “Quiet Hours” feature in the Teams mobile app comes in handy.

It ensures that:

  • you can truly unwind in the evening
  • your mind is clear after work
  • but you still don’t forget or miss anything

Because what matters is:

Messages don’t get lost—you choose to view them later.

That’s because notifications pause during Quiet Hours.

Downtime not only helps you clear your head after work, but also prevents you from missing things you might have just skimmed over in a hurry.



Best Practice: When You Do Take a Quick Peek

Let’s be honest—we all take a quick peek sometimes 🙈

Here’s what I do in those moments:

Press and hold the message until the menu opens:

  • 👉Mark the message as unread again or
  • 👉Save the message 


Set breakt times

Example: Workdays Monday through Thursday.

Open Teams on your mobile device and tap your profile picture at the top

Click on Notifications



Block notifications during “Quiet Hours”:


On weekdays (Monday through Thursday) from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Friday through Sunday: all day
Offline mode for Teams and Outlook (during this time, I won’t receive notifications for emails either)



The specified quiet hours will then be displayed as a description under “Block notifications”:
